Arrivederci is an Italian word meaning “until we meet again” or more simply, “goodbye”. This song was written in 1955 by Renato Rascel, Pietro Garinei, and Sandro Giovannini in Italian and was featured in the Italian movie “Arrivederci Roma”. The same movie was also released in English under the name “Seven Hills of Rome”. Later, a man named Carl Sigman wrote English lyrics to the song which is what most of us would be familiar with. This song is dripping with sentimentality and passion – the kind of things that certainly belong to Italy and its people. I’ve included the original song in Italian sung by Mario Lanza and an English version sung by Dean Martin.
